Save Your Relationship’s from Life’s Extreme Pressures

It’s natural to have a desire to keep bad news from the people close to you.


But is going it alone the best move and how do you deal with the pressure?

Extreme pressure. It can come in the form of news from your doctor’s office or a pink slip in your cubby at work. There’s nothing more terrifying than the deep uncertainty that comes when things go wrong. And it shows.

That pressure starts to manifest in your life and in places you never thought possible. Now your relationship is in trouble. The world around you has placed extreme pressure on the one thing that should be the most solid and secure thing in your life. What are you going to do to rescue it?


Thankfully there’s help at hand. Below is a list of ways you can save even your most precious thing, the relationship with the person you love, from life’s extreme pressures:


1. Commit to commitment. Before you can do anything else, you need first to recognize together that this relationship is worth saving. That means making your relationship a priority. By being willing to put in the time and effort required to make the relationship strong, you’ve already won half the battle. If you are both committed to one another and have declared that to be true, you are well on your way to solidifying the relationship.


2. Have a game plan. Good relationships don’t just happen randomly. Start with open and honest communication with your partner on how to handle the pressure. Take time to talk about the triggers, and how they’re manifesting in your life, and then work together to create a plan for how to work through those triggers.


3. Do something to relieve stress.Recognizing that you can’t have a good relationship with someone else when you’re stressed out, means you also need to make yourself a priority. Take time to do things you love that help you to relieve your stress from this pressure-filled situation.


4. And then help your partner to relieve their stress, by making sure you similarly address their needs.


5. Ask for outside help. It could be the external pressure is just too much to handle alone. At these times, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Talk to friends and make use of whatever support you already have. If things are particularly rough, then it might be time for outside help. Talk to someone trained to help, such as a minister, or pursue couples counseling with a licensed therapist.


Following these steps will not only ground you when things are difficult but will help to safeguard your relationship even when things are at their worst. Stay strong and stay with each other. Together, the two of you can overcome anything!
